Senior Vice President Shim Ickchan receives Industrial Medal at the 「15th Electronics/IT Day」

◇ Improved Korean mobile camera industry’s competitiveness by constructing core foundational technology for camera modules
◇ Contributed to the localization of core components, including lens and actuators



At the awards ceremony of the '15th Electronics/IT Day', Samsung Electro-Mechanics Senior Vice President Shim Ickchan received the Industrial Medal for his contributions to the improvement of the Korean mobile camera industry’s competitiveness.

The Electronics/IT Day event was established in celebration of reaching electronics export of USD 100 billion in 2005. Five medals are awarded, including the Industrial Medal, Industrial Service Merit, Presidential Commendation, Prime Minister Commendation, and Minister Commendation, for those who have contributed to the development of the electronics/IT industry and the nation’s reputation.

After joining Samsung Electro-Mechanics in 1993, Senior Vice President Shim Ickchan contributed to helping Samsung Electro-Mechanics achieve global leadership in the camera module business through securing mobile camera core technology and developing various new products. In 2002, with the development of miniature internal camera modules in 2002, he developed the Auto Focus camera module and OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer) actuators, and in 2019, he succeeded in mass-producing the world’s first high-magnification optical folded zoom that can be embedded in the smartphone.

In particular, he contributed to the localization of lens, the core component for camera modules, and actuator, which helped improve the mobile camera module industry’s competitiveness.

Senior Vice President Shim Ickchan commented, “This award is meaningful as it proves Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ camera module research and development capabilities, and going forward, I plan to continue to endeavor to improve Korea’s mobile camera industry’s competitiveness.”

Since 2002, Samsung Electro-Mechanics began with its module business, and currently, it operates production facilities in China and Vietnam. In addition, based on its technology accumulated in the mobile field, through differentiated products in the automotive camera module, it plans to expand its business with global automotive companies.
